Medical Museion is a combined museum and research unit at the University of Copenhagen. The museum was founded on a private initiative in 1907 before being taken over by the University in 1918, and contains one of the richest historical collections of medical artifacts in Europe. The museum is located in the former Royal Academy of Surgeons from 1787, including a unique anatomical theater used today for events and teaching. Medical Museion produces exhibitions, events, and social media platforms exploring the past, present, and future of medicine. During the last fifteen years, Medical Museion has developed an internationally recognized portfolio in the display of contemporary biomedicine in historical and cultural perspective, art/science collaborations and experimental public engagement activities. Research informs, supports, and evaluates the museum activities, with particular foci in medical humanities and science communication studies. In 2016, Medical Museion enters a new phase under the Directorship of Professor Ken Arnold.
